Why travel insurance rejections happen
Every month, we get panicked WhatsApp messages from clients who downloaded a travel insurance policy from the internet and got rejected at the embassy. The problem is almost always one of three things:
1. The minimum coverage (€30,000) isn't clearly stated in English 2. The policy doesn't explicitly cover medical repatriation 3. The dates don't cover the full stay plus buffer days
What Schengen embassies require (exactly)
The official Schengen visa requirement for travel insurance is:
- Minimum coverage: **€30,000** (approximately ₱1,800,000+)
- Valid in **all Schengen states**
- Covers **emergency medical expenses AND repatriation**
- Valid for the **entire duration of the trip**
- Policy must be issued **before the visa appointment**
Most budget online policies fail at least one of these criteria.
What about Japan, UK and US visas?
Japan does not require travel insurance for the visa application but strongly recommends it. The UK and US don't require it either — but having it often strengthens your application by demonstrating financial responsibility.
