CTPL vs Comprehensive: What Every Car Owner in Cebu Needs to Know

Every registered vehicle needs CTPL

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) requires Compulsory Third Party Liability (CTPL) for every vehicle registration renewal in the Philippines. No CTPL, no registration. It's that simple.

But here's what most car owners don't realize: CTPL only covers the medical and funeral expenses of people you injure or kill with your vehicle. It does NOT cover:

• Damage to your own vehicle
• Damage to someone else's property
• Theft
• Acts of nature (floods, typhoons)

The coverage limit is also tiny — ₱100,000 for death, ₱300,000 for injury. A serious accident in Cebu can easily cost far more.

Comprehensive cover explained

A comprehensive policy adds:

• **Own damage (OD):** repairs your car after a collision
• **Theft:** covers total theft or carnapping
• **Acts of Nature (AON):** flooding, typhoons, earthquakes — critical in the Visayas
• **Third Party Property Damage (TPPD):** covers the other driver's car
• **Personal accident:** for you and your passengers

The premium depends on your vehicle's value, model, age and use. For a ₱700,000 SUV in Cebu, expect ₱18,000–28,000/year for comprehensive.

Can I get CTPL without comprehensive?

Yes. CTPL can be issued standalone (as low as ₱560 for motorcycles, ₱1,500+ for cars). But we always recommend at least adding AON cover — especially during typhoon season.
